Pilz Showcases Smart Safety at Automate 2025

28 Apr 2025

DETROIT - April 2025 - At Automate 2025, Pilz will demonstrate how functional safety, industrial security and intelligent access control can be seamlessly integrated to support safe, productive and flexible manufacturing. With a focus on decentralization, modularity and efficient data flow, Pilz presents a range of solutions designed for the needs of Industry 4.0 environments.

IO-link safety: Enabling safe communication at field level

As one of the first suppliers to offer a complete IO-Link Safety system, Pilz introduces a future-ready solution for safe, point-to-point communication between sensors and masters. The IO-Link Safety Master PDP67 IOLS, developed for harsh industrial environments (IP67), supports seamless integration of safe and non-safe devices into modular machine architectures.

By using open standards and ensuring interoperability across manufacturers, IO-Link Safety allows users to:

  • Reduce wiring complexity and system setup time
  • Enable device replacement without reparameterization
  • Improve diagnostic transparency, reducing unplanned downtime
  • Combine safety and automation in one unified network

Pilz's approach significantly simplifies the engineering process while increasing the flexibility and scalability of machine installations.

PITmode Fusion: Intelligent access control and operating mode selection

Pilz also showcases its modular access authorization system PITmode fusion, which allows machine manufacturers to implement secure, role-based access control. Using RFID transponder keys, users are assigned specific permissions–from machine setup to service mode–based on their role and qualifications.
With encrypted communication and tamper-proof data handling, PITmode fusion contributes to the industrial security strategy of any smart factory. The solution is compliant with key standards including ISO 13849 and IEC 61508.

Pilz experts will be available at Booth #832 for live demonstrations and technical discussions.
